Station 10

Just a few meters further, at the end of the street, turn left and enter a courtyard, which is on the roof of the Holy Sepulcher Church. Across the courtyard and to the right you enter a room with staircases that wind down through two Ethiopian chapels, leading to the courtyard in front of the Holy Sepulcher. Just before entering the Church, a staircase to the right leads to the entrance of the tenth Station.

“And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), they offered Him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when He tasted it, He would not drink it. And when they had crucified Him, they divided His garments among them by casting lots. Then they sat down and kept watch over Him there. ” (Matthew 27:33-36)

King David prophesied 1000 years prior to Jesus’ crucifixion about this particular detail in the life of Jesus when he wrote: “They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.”

Reflection

One of the most common ways that God conveys truth to us is by prophecy. When one of these prophecies come true, they build up our faith. We are assured that what we believe was indeed true. God wants us to approach Him by faith. In fact we cannot please God without faith, yet He also wants us to have understandable proof. The fulfillment of prophecies shows what we believe is rational.

Prayer

Thank you, Lord, for your Word and for the prophecies about Jesus and His death on the cross. They help me to believe and be confident in my faith.
